Ancient acacia trees cast shadows across a cracked and desolate desert landscape in the morning light. This strange alien landscape in Namibia's Namib-Naukluft National Park is known as Deadvlei, or loosely Afrikaans for "dead marsh". This is in reference to the fact that this area used to flood hundreds of years ago, enabling these now long dead trees to grow.
