"Sleeping Beauty"
The famous laceleaf Japanese maple, sometimes referred to as the "Tree of Life" or "Peter Lik Tree", in the Strolling Pond area of the Portland Japanese Garden covered in a blanket of fresh winter snow.
Quite possibly the most photographed tree in the entire world, this laceleaf Japanese maple was planted in 1968 and is estimated to be about 70 years old today. The origins of this tree are a little uncertain but best guesses from the gardeners place the tree at about 20 years old when it was planted. Due to Portland's mild Pacific Northwest climate, winter snowfall is very rare in the garden, making snowy scenes of this serene place incredibly special.
