Artist's Description

"Trapped in Time"

Sand from the desert has been slowly reclaiming the buildings in this diamond mining ghost town near Luderitz, Namibia. In the early 1900's this town was a rich mining village full of amenities including many firsts for any town in Africa. Many of the buildings featured beautiful German-style architecture that seem out-of-place in the harsh desert environment here. It was abandoned in the 1950's as richer diamond deposits were found elsewhere. The original brightly-colored paint and wallpaper, while decaying and peeling, is still present in many of the buildings. The door seemingly trapped and floating in the sand and the colorful peeling paint caught my interest in this surreal scene.

My work has been regularly featured by the Portland Japanese Garden and...
