A panoramic view of the Milky Way, Large Magellanic Cloud, and Small Magellanic Cloud shining brightly over an acacia tree in the Kalahari Desert on a moonless night. The tiniest bit of light pollution from a small village a few miles away provides a bit of back-lighting to the acacia tree, a quintessential tree found in the deserts and savannas of Africa.The night skies in much of Namibia were the darkest I have seen anywhere in the world, with stars seen clear down to the horizon in every direction without the slightest hint of light pollution.
