Artist's Description
"Baobabs at Night"
Moonlit baobab trees in a dark starry sky seen in our safari camp in Tanzania's Tarangire National Park. This iconic type of tree, sometimes referred to as an upside-down tree, is found only in parts of Africa, Arabia, and Australia. The African night sky is truly a marvelous sight.
As we were photographing this scene, the park ranger guarding our camp was insistent that we go into our tents for the night and not stay out, even though the trees were well within the camp boundaries. He said it was dangerous to be out. The next morning, we understood why. A pride of lions had come through the camp during the night and knocked over all of the shower water buckets, probably looking for water.
