Artist's Description
Sunset view of a large wave crashing in front of Cape Disappointment Lighthouse near Ilwaco, Washington. Cape Disappointment is a headland located near the mouth of the Columbia River, at the extreme southwestern corner of Washington. It receives about 2,552 hours of fog a year making it one of the foggiest places in the US. Powerful winter storms often bring enormous waves into this area, as was the case on this particular afternoon.
This image was the Microsoft Bing image of the day on January 28, 2020 in honor of the US Coast Guard's 105th birthday.
