Description
Sun shines through a laceleaf maple in the Portland Japanese Garden creating a starburst effect on a crisp sunny autumn day.
Quite possibly the most photographed tree in the entire world, this laceleaf Japanese maple was planted in 1968 and is estimated to be about 70 years old today. The origins of this tree are a little uncertain but best guesses from the gardeners place the tree at about 20 years old when it was planted. Each autumn in October it turns a brilliant red for a week or two, before quickly dropping all of its leaves for the winter.
